INTERNAL / EXTERNAL VACANCY

 

IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to  develop this “mine of the future”. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.

 

Fire and Hazardous Materials Officer X 2 (REF: IVP-VEN-2403)

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

·       Grade 12

·       Fire 1&2 (Accredited with SAESI)

·       First Aid Level 3

·       Code 10 Drivers licence

·       Hazmat awareness

 

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

·       3-5 years’ experience in a fire and hazardous material environment

 

     The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

·       Monthly inspections and reporting on all Fire Extinguishers and hose reels and hydrants on site.

·       Monthly inspections and reporting on all Fire Extinguishers and hydrants at the industrial offices.

·       Weekly inspections and reporting on the hydrant system, ensuring necessary maintenance is being done according to the Fire Hydrant System Maintenance and Operation SOP.

·       Inspect and report on all emergency exits monthly, ensuring they are free from obstruction and operational.

·       Ensure that the trailer unit, skid unit and rescue vehicle equipment are in good working order and submit report monthly.

·       Ensure correct fire equipment signs are in place.

·       Respond to all fire and chemical emergencies.

·       Weekly checking of fire alarms.

·       Assist with general Occupational Hygiene issuing and receiving of noise dosimeter instruments and gravimetric dust sampling pumps to employees on different shifts and the completion and record keeping of the required forms.

·       Contribute to the development and revision of relevant Standard Operating Procedures, which includes the Emergency Response Procedure

·       Ensure that all Hazardous materials are stored and managed correctly in terms of the chemical compatibility chart, submit report monthly and keep hazardous chemicals register and MSDS’s monthly up to date.

·       Participate in the investigation and audits of hazardous materials related incidents and prepare Incident Action Plan

·       Inspect emergency response equipment such as eyewashes and safety showers.

·       Monthly checks of surface fire breaks and submit report.

·       Ensure Block Captains and alternatives are appointed and trained.
