VACANCY
IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this “mine of the future”. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.
LABORATORY SUPERVISOR X 1 (REF: IVP-PL-2618)
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
· A BSc Degree in Chemistry or B-tech Analytical Chemistry/Metallurgy or Geology is essential.
· Strong organisational, verbal and written communication skills are required.
· Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
· Competent in technical knowledge of analytical processes.
· Valid South African Driving License.
· Based in Mokopane or willing to relocate.
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
· 5 years post qualification with proven supervisory experience in a geochemical/geometallurgy field.
· Extensive laboratory experience in a mining environment.
· Extensive experience with laboratory operations, including bulk sample preparation and splitting
· Technical knowledge of sampling theory and analytical techniques for PGM and Base metals
· Must have good working knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System and SANAS.
· Proficient in LIMS systems, statistical software, MS package including Excel and PowerPoint.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
· Monitor and control the analytical laboratory, MRM and metallurgical laboratory expenditure against approved budget.
· Monitor the laboratory inventory including consumables and reagents.
· Oversee the analytical laboratory to ensure that monthly targets and agreed turn-around time commitments are met.
· Evaluate the reported data and reporting of final results to clients (Technical signatory)
· Conduct independent laboratory internal audits and address non-conformances.
· Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation from the system is detected, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
· Assist in the investigation of any irregularities/non-conformances including improvement requests and client’s (MRM, Metallurgy etc.). Institute appropriate Root Cause Analysis for all investigations and formulate appropriate technical conclusions and remedial actions.
· Implement and maintain quality systems in the laboratory as stipulated by ISO17025, ISO9001 and SANAS.
· Maintain quality results by participating in internal audits and external audits, reviewing quality control and quality assurance programmes.
· Oversee the management and filing of laboratory records.
· Ensure that all laboratory instruments are serviced and calibrated on schedule as per laboratory requirements and OEM schedules.
· Oversee /Arrange and co-ordinate all laboratory instruments repairs and replacement.
· Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and take action to address quality complains and issues from the serviced departments (MRM and Metallurgy).
· Adhere to SHE and OHS principles.
· Ensure compliance with all HR policies, procedures, and standards.
· Apply the Ivanplats principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for your safety and others to ensure zero harm and the elimination of fatalities and loss-time Injuries in accordance with the Ivanplats Standards and Mine Health and Safety Act.
